inspiration: experiences in the district (by proxy)

so i've decided to just create a whole new section of my blog entitled inspiration: experiences in the district. it really is just a fancy name for story corner.

but this one i'd like to share did not happen to me. it happened to the boy i have a crush on. okay. i guess i have more than just a crush on him, so i am going to call him "special friend." but i divulge. let's get back to the inspiration.

a few weeks ago, special friend went shopping at the nearby kick-butt mall (which he does a fair bit since he is also a patient of retail therapy). while traveling down the escalator to the metro platform, a group of three men were heavily in a discussion. all of a sudden, one them exclaimed in a rather loud voice: "and that's what we get for having a black man in the white house!"

well, needless to say, everyone traveling on the escalator turned and looked at special friend - who happens to resemble the current president in the white house - in both stature and in a certain shade of complexion. all eyes were on him and it was one of those "awkward moments."

once everyone was on the platform, the man with the loud voice and very strong opinion walks over to special friend and says:

"sorry about that, but i happen to be a graduate of harvard."

everyone that witnessed the original outburst is now even more intently watching the scene, listening to what the man said to special friend and waiting to see how special friend will react.

special friend, being more witty and quick thinking than i ever will be, replies: "i would think that someone that graduated from such a prestigious institution would have a more intelligent comment to make."

the small crowd literally breaks out in cheers and gives special friend a thumbs up.

boo-yah!

now if i could only figure out a way to be that quick thinking....
